Château Mont-Redon Lirac Blanc 2024

Château Mont-Redon Lirac Blanc is a Clairette led white from the estate's holdings on the right bank of the Rhône.

Château Mont-Redon is one of the largest single properties in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, around a hundred hectares on the high plateau north west of the village where the ground is carpeted in galets roulés, the rounded quartzite stones left by the ice ages. The Abeille-Fabre family has run it since 1923. Lirac sits across the river from Châteauneuf, north of Tavel, on terraces of galets and sandy limestone, and it is one of the few southern Rhône crus to make white, red and rosé under the same name. Mont-Redon has owned vineyard there for decades and treats it as a serious appellation rather than an overflow. This white is 60 per cent Clairette with 20 per cent each of Grenache Blanc and Roussanne, Clairette bringing the acidity and lift, Roussanne the weight.

Textured but fresh, it suits grilled fish, aioli, goat's cheese and vegetable dishes; serve at around 11 degrees.
