Description
Château Mouton Rothschild Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild is the second wine of the Pauillac first growth, made from the same vineyard and by the same team.
Le Petit Mouton was introduced in 1993 to take the vats and parcels that do not go into the grand vin, chiefly younger vines on the gravel rise at the northern end of Pauillac. Mouton Rothschild itself was bought by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild in 1853 and was raised from second to first growth in 1973 after a long campaign by Baron Philippe, the only change ever made to the 1855 classification. The second wine follows the house style, with Cabernet Sauvignon leading and Merlot and Cabernet Franc in support, and it is made in the same cellars and raised in French oak.
It suits roast lamb, beef or game and is drinkable earlier than the grand vin, though good vintages will hold for ten years or more.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
