Château Mouton Rothschild Le Petite Mouton de Mouton Rothschild 2021

Château Mouton Rothschild Le Petite Mouton de Mouton Rothschild is the second wine of one of Pauillac's first growths.

The wine was created in 1993 and draws on parcels within the Mouton Rothschild vineyard, largely younger vines, set aside during the selection for the grand vin. Mouton sits on the gravel rise at the northern edge of Pauillac, close to the Gironde, and has been in Rothschild hands since 1853. Its promotion from second to first growth in 1973 remains the only revision ever made to the 1855 classification, the result of decades of work by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, who also began the tradition of commissioning an artist for each year's label. The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, matured in French oak in the estate's own cellars.

Roast lamb, beef and game are natural partners, and while it opens earlier than the grand vin it will keep for a decade.
