Description
Description
Château Nénin is a Pomerol estate on the western side of the appellation, and one of the larger holdings in a commune where most properties are tiny.
Pomerol sits on the Right Bank of the Dordogne, just north of Libourne, and remains the great anomaly of Bordeaux: no classification, no grand châteaux in the Médoc sense, and a patchwork of small growers working clay, gravel and the iron-rich seam known locally as crasse de fer. Merlot dominates the plantings, with Cabernet Franc adding structure and lift. Nénin was bought in 1997 by the Delon family, owners of Château Léoville Las Cases in Saint-Julien, and the years since have brought replanting, a reworking of the vineyard and a more precise hand in the cellar, with maturation in French oak barrels.
It suits slow-cooked beef, duck or mushroom dishes; serve at around 18°C and decant an hour ahead, with the better vintages rewarding a decade or more in the cellar.
