Description
Château Palmer Historical XIXth Century Wine No. 20 is a Margaux estate's Bordeaux blended with Syrah from the northern Rhône, reviving a practice that was commonplace in the 1800s.
In the nineteenth century claret was often hermitaged, strengthened with a portion of dark, powerful Syrah from Hermitage in the northern Rhône, and the resulting wines were prized and sold at a premium over straight Bordeaux. Palmer revived the idea in 2004, blending Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot from its own vineyards in Cantenac with Syrah sourced from the Rhône. Because the blend crosses appellation boundaries it cannot carry the Margaux name and is released instead as a Vin de France, in very small quantities, each release identified by a lot number rather than by a vintage on the label.
Serve at 17 to 18°C with roast or grilled red meat and decant well ahead; made in tiny volumes, it rewards patience in the cellar.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
