Description
Château Palmer Vin Blanc de Palmer is a rare dry white from the famous Margaux third growth, made in tiny quantities from Muscadelle, Loset and Sauvignon Gris.
White wine was made at this estate in the early twentieth century, then dropped in the 1930s, and the tradition was only revived in 2007. The vines occupy a small corner of the property and include Loset, an old and almost forgotten local variety, alongside Muscadelle and Sauvignon Gris. The estate as a whole has been farmed biodynamically for years and gained certification in 2017. Production has been reported at only around a hundred cases a year, and for a long time the wine was poured at the château and seldom sold, so any commercial release is hard to find. Margaux has no white appellation, which means it is bottled without the village name.
Serve chilled at around 10 to 12 degrees, taking it out of the fridge a few minutes before pouring. It suits scallops, crab, grilled white fish, roast chicken or soft goat's cheese. With so little made, it is a bottle to share with fellow Bordeaux lovers, and best enjoyed over the next five or so years.
