Description

Château Pape Clément Rouge comes from Pessac-Léognan, from a vineyard that was already old when the great estates of the Médoc were still marshland.

The property takes its name from Bertrand de Goth, archbishop of Bordeaux, who was given it in 1300 and five years later became Pope Clement V. It is among the oldest continuously worked vineyards in Bordeaux and now sits within the suburbs of the city, in the Pessac-Léognan appellation created in 1987. Classified for its red wine in the Graves classification of the 1950s, Pape Clément has been in the hands of Bernard Magrez since 1985. The red is built on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a little Cabernet Franc, hand harvested, sorted berry by berry and matured in French oak barrels in cellars beside the old vineyard walls.

It goes well with roast beef, lamb or game; serve at 17 to 18°C and decant, with fine vintages capable of ageing twenty years or more.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
