Château Petit-Village 2022

Château Petit-Village is a Pomerol estate sitting on the plateau alongside some of the appellation's most celebrated names.

Pomerol is small, has never been classified, and owes its reputation to the gravel and clay of its central plateau, where Merlot and Cabernet Franc produce wines of remarkable depth from very small holdings. Petit-Village lies on that plateau, close to Vieux Château Certan and not far from Pétrus, on gravel with an iron-rich subsoil. Held for many years by AXA Millésimes, the property changed hands in 2022 and has been the subject of a thorough replanting and a rebuilt, gravity-fed cellar. Merlot leads the blend with Cabernet Franc alongside, hand harvested, fermented in small vats and aged in French oak barrels. Holdings in Pomerol are counted in a few hectares rather than dozens, so production here is modest by Bordeaux standards.

It suits duck, veal or mushroom dishes; serve at 17 to 18°C and decant, with good vintages keeping fifteen years or more.
