Château Peybonhomme-Les-Tours Blaye-Côtes de Bordeaux 375ml 2019

Château Peybonhomme-les-Tours Blaye-Côtes de Bordeaux, in half bottle, is a biodynamic Merlot-led right bank claret from limestone and clay above the Gironde.

Blaye-Côtes de Bordeaux sits on the right bank of the Gironde estuary north of Bourg, an area of limestone and clay where Merlot ripens reliably and the wines are built for drinking rather than long cellaring. Château Peybonhomme-les-Tours is one of the region's biodynamic estates. This classic estate bottling is a blend of 75 per cent Merlot, 15 per cent Cabernet Franc and 10 per cent Malbec, grown on the property's limestone and clay soils overlooking the estuary. Fermentation is with indigenous yeasts, after which the wine matures mostly in concrete, with 10 per cent fermented and aged in oak of two to three years, and it is bottled unfiltered. The concrete-led élevage keeps the fruit clear and the tannins fine. This is the 375ml half bottle.

Drinking well now and good for another five years or so, it suits lamb chops, steak or a hard cheese. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees.
