Description

L'Atypic is a co-fermented blend of Malbec and Cabernet Franc from Château Peybonhomme-les-Tours in Blaye, bottled as Vin de France.

The Hubert family farms on the limestone and clay of the Premières Côtes de Blaye, on the right bank of the Gironde north of Bourg, and holds biodynamic certification across the estate. The vines behind this cuvée are now 40 years old. The blend of 60% Malbec and 40% Cabernet Franc falls outside the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux rules, which is why the wine carries the Vin de France designation, and the two varieties are picked and fermented together rather than blended after the fact. Fermentation runs on indigenous yeasts and the wine is raised entirely in concrete, with no oak, which keeps the fruit clear and the tannins fine. The result is ripe and intense, with dark cherry, spice and a twist of dried herb.

Drink now and over the next six years. Serve at 16°C with grilled beef, lamb chops or a mushroom ragù.
