Description
Château Phélan Ségur Saint-Estèphe is a Left Bank Bordeaux red from one of the appellation's most highly regarded unclassified estates.
Saint-Estèphe lies at the northern edge of the Médoc, its clay soils suited to structured, long-lived reds. Phélan Ségur takes its name from Bernard Phelan, an Irish-descended proprietor who united the properties of Ségur-Garamey and Clos de Garamey in the nineteenth century. The estate was revived from the mid-1980s by the Gardinier family, who invested heavily in the vineyard and winery, before passing in 2017 to Belgian businessman Philippe Van de Vyvere. Phélan Ségur is widely regarded as a benchmark unclassified Bordeaux, frequently spoken of as a candidate for promotion were the 1855 Classification ever revised.
A polished, well-priced Bordeaux red, ideal for roast meats and hearty, slow-cooked dishes.
