Description
Château Pichon-Longueville, Baron 2ème Cru G.C.C is a Pauillac second growth, its turreted château facing Pichon Comtesse across the road that runs down to Latour.
The estate is the male half of the old Pichon Longueville property, divided in the nineteenth century between the Baron's heirs, and it kept the vineyards on the plateau closest to Latour. Pauillac's deep gravel croupes suit Cabernet Sauvignon above all, and the blend here is firmly Cabernet-led, with Merlot filling it out. AXA Millésimes bought the château in 1987 and commissioned the striking modern winery and reflecting pool that now sit behind the old building. The wine is fermented parcel by parcel and matured in French oak, a good share of it new each year, in a cellar built into the slope below the vineyard.
Serve at 17 to 18°C with roast beef, lamb or game, decanting a couple of hours ahead; strong vintages will keep for twenty-five years or more.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
