Description
Château Pichon Réserve de la Comtesse, 2nd Vin is the second wine of Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, one of the leading second growths of Pauillac.
Comtesse de Lalande sits at the southern edge of Pauillac, its vineyard bordering Château Latour, with a slice lying on the Saint-Julien side of the boundary. Réserve de la Comtesse has been made since the 1970s and draws on younger vines and on vats not chosen for the grand vin, generally with a higher share of Merlot, which gives a wine that comes round sooner. Cabernet Sauvignon still provides the backbone, with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc in support. The estate has belonged to the Rouzaud family of Champagne Louis Roederer since 2007, and selection has tightened considerably in that time.
Serve at 17 to 18°C with lamb, steak or roast poultry; it drinks well from a few years after release and will keep for a decade or more.
