Château Potensac Médoc 2012

Château Potensac Médoc is a Left Bank Bordeaux from the Delon family's estate in the northern Médoc, built on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

Ordonnac, in the quieter northern half of the peninsula above Saint-Estèphe, is where the estate sits, on a rise of gravel and clay-limestone. The appellation here is the regional one, with no commune name. The Delon family have owned it for generations and run it with the team from Château Léoville Las Cases in Saint-Julien, which shows in the selection and polish. Parcels are picked and fermented separately, then aged in oak, a modest share new, for a little under two years before bottling at the property.

Firm and classic, with cedar and blackcurrant behind fine, dry tannins. Give it an hour in a decanter and serve at 16–18°C with roast lamb, steak or a hard cheese.
