Château Potensac Médoc 2018

Château Potensac Médoc is a long-standing value favourite from the northern Médoc, made by the team behind Château Léoville Las Cases.

The property belongs to the Delon family, owners of Léoville Las Cases in Saint-Julien, and is run with the same attention to detail. Vines grow on gravel and clay ridges near the village of Ordonnac, in the north of the Médoc. Unusually for the Left Bank, Merlot leads the blend, with Cabernet Sauvignon, a notable share of Cabernet Franc and a little Petit Verdot. Strict selection and oak ageing that supports the fruit without masking it are hallmarks of the house. The sunny 2018 vintage gave ripe, expressive fruit and a powerful, particularly velvety tannic structure, joining the classicism of a great ageing year with the delicacy of warmer seasons.

Open it now after an hour in a decanter, or cellar it for another five to ten years. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with grilled lamb chops, beef and mushroom pie or duck confit.
