Château Poujeaux Moulis-en-Médoc 2018

Château Poujeaux Moulis-en-Médoc is a classic Left Bank red from Moulis, well regarded for its consistency and value, here from the ripe 2018 vintage.

Moulis is one of the smallest communal appellations of the Médoc, lying inland between Margaux and Saint-Julien, and its best vineyards sit on deep Garonne gravel. Poujeaux occupies a prime spot on this gravel near the hamlet of Grand Poujeaux. Since 2008 the estate has belonged to Philippe Cuvelier and his family, owners of Saint-Émilion's Clos Fourtet, whose investment has lifted quality further. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot form the core, with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc in support, and the wine is raised in oak. A warm, dry summer in 2018 gave concentrated, ripe fruit right across the Médoc.

This is a wine for the dinner table. Pour it at 16 to 18 degrees alongside roast leg of lamb, a steak with béarnaise or hard cheeses, and decant for about an hour if opening soon.
