Château Rieussec R de Rieussec 2021

Château Rieussec R de Rieussec is the dry white made at one of the most celebrated estates of Sauternes, bottled under the Bordeaux Blanc appellation.

Rieussec sits in the commune of Fargues, on high ground close to Château d'Yquem, and has belonged to Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) since 1984. The estate is best known for its sweet wine, but a portion of the Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc is picked early, before botrytis takes hold, and vinified dry. Fermentation and ageing take place in barrel, with work on the lees to build texture, and the wine is released as Bordeaux Blanc because the Sauternes appellation covers sweet wine alone. It is a useful reminder that the great sweet wine properties of the left bank grow white grapes of real quality.

Serve well chilled with roast chicken, grilled fish or a plate of hard cheeses; it drinks well on release and will hold for several years in the cellar.
