Château Saint-Georges Saint-Georges-Saint-Émilion 1.5L MAGNUM 2019

Château Saint-Georges is the leading estate of the Saint-Georges-Saint-Émilion appellation, centred on an eighteenth century château, here in magnum.

Saint-Georges-Saint-Émilion is the smallest of the Saint-Émilion satellite appellations, a hill just north of the Barbanne stream from Saint-Émilion itself, with clay and limestone soils over the same limestone plateau. Château Saint-Georges dominates it: the château was built in the eighteenth century to designs by Victor Louis, architect of the Grand Théâtre in Bordeaux, and the property has belonged to the Desbois family for generations. The vineyard covers around fifty hectares on the slopes around the house. Merlot makes up the large majority of the blend, with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon completing it. Fermentation is in vat and the wine is matured in oak barrel, a portion of it new, before bottling at the château.

Ripe and firmly built, it suits roast beef, lamb and duck; decant and serve at around 17 degrees.
