Description

Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet is the second wine of Château Sociando-Mallet in the northern Haut-Médoc.

Sociando-Mallet stands at Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, the northernmost commune of the Haut-Médoc, where a gravel croupe looks out over the Gironde towards the estates of Saint-Estèphe. Jean Gautreau restored the property from 1969 and made its name without any classification, eventually leaving the Cru Bourgeois system behind. Demoiselle is drawn from the younger vines and from the vats not chosen for the grand vin, and it is built on Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot in support. Ageing is in oak barrel with a lower proportion of new wood, which gives a wine carrying the firm house signature in a lighter and earlier-drinking frame.

Approachable but properly structured, it suits steak, roast lamb and hard cheese; serve at around 17 degrees.
