Château Terrefort-Lescalle Bordeaux AOC 375ml 2023

Château Terrefort-Lescalle Bordeaux AOC is a Merlot led claret from Macau, on the southern edge of the Médoc.

Bordeaux AOC is the region's base appellation, covering fruit grown anywhere in the Gironde, and it is used by a good many Médoc properties for parcels that fall outside their commune boundaries. Terrefort-Lescalle sits at Macau, between Margaux and the city, and shares ownership with Château Maucamps in the Haut-Médoc. The soils are the sand and gravel over heavy clay that give the name terrefort, and the planting follows the usual Médoc pattern, with Merlot taking the larger share and Cabernet Sauvignon providing the frame. Vinification is straightforward and modern, with a moderate maceration and ageing in vat and used barrel so the wine stays fresh and drinks early.

Supple, medium bodied and made for drinking young, it suits steak frites, charcuterie and everyday roasts; serve at 16 to 17 degrees.
