Description
Château Troplong Mondot de Château Troplong Mondot is the second label of a leading Saint-Émilion estate, made on the high ground above the town.
Troplong Mondot carries the name of Raymond Troplong, the nineteenth century jurist and senator who owned the property, and that of the Mondot plateau on which it sits, one of the highest points of the appellation at around ninety metres. The soils are clay over asteriated limestone, with a hard cap of rock that holds water through dry summers, and Merlot dominates the plantings. The second wine is drawn from the parcels and vats not chosen for the grand vin, generally the younger vines, and is given a shorter and gentler time in barrel. It offers the character of the estate in a form ready to drink earlier.
Decant and serve with roast lamb, duck or mushroom dishes; and the wine drinks well within five to ten years.
