Description
Château Trotanoy is a Pomerol from the plateau at the heart of the appellation, and one of the most sought after wines of the commune.
The name is said to derive from trop annoy, a comment on how hard the ground was to work. The vineyard lies on the western side of the Pomerol plateau, on gravel over a dense band of clay, a soil that suits Merlot particularly well and gives the wine its density. The estate has belonged to the Moueix family since 1953 and is farmed and made alongside their other Pomerol properties. Merlot accounts for the great majority of the plantings, with a small proportion of Cabernet Franc. Production is modest, the fruit is picked and sorted by hand, and the wine is matured in French oak barrels.
Decant and serve with roast beef, lamb or dishes with truffle or mushroom; it is worth a decade in the cellar and will hold far longer.
