Description
Chaume Arnaud Le Petit Coquet is an early drinking Cotes du Rhone red made by an organically farmed estate in the Drome Provencale.
The Cotes du Rhone appellation covers the great bulk of the southern Rhone, and the character of any given wine comes down to where in it the grower sits. Valerie Chaume and Philippe Arnaud farm from Vinsobres in the Drome Provencale, at the cooler, higher northern edge of the southern Rhone, where altitude and the mistral hold acidity in the fruit and slow ripening by comparison with the valley floor. The estate works organically and has long farmed by biodynamic principles. Le Petit Coquet is the lightest of its reds, Grenache led with Syrah, fermented for freshness rather than extraction and bottled young under a stelvin screwcap to keep the fruit bright.
Juicy and unoaked, it is best served slightly cool with charcuterie, tomato-based pasta or roast chicken; around 15 degrees suits it.
