Chaume Arnaud Côtes du Rhône rouge Saint Maurice 2022

Chaume Arnaud Saint Maurice comes from one of the named villages of the northern part of the southern Rhone, farmed organically by the estate.

Saint-Maurice-sur-Eygues is a small commune between Vinsobres and Nyons and one of the villages allowed to add its name to the Cotes du Rhone Villages appellation. The vineyards sit on clay and limestone slopes at altitude, in the same cool corner of the Drome Provencale as the estate's home at Vinsobres, and the wines tend to be firmer and more mineral than the softer reds of the plain. Valerie Chaume and Philippe Arnaud farm organically here, with old Grenache carrying the blend and Syrah adding structure and a black-fruited lift. Ageing is in tank and older wood, so the emphasis stays on the site rather than on oak.

Firm and food friendly, it suits braised beef, game birds and mushroom dishes; serve at around 16 to 17 degrees.
