Description
Chêne Bleu Le Rosé is a rosé from a high, isolated estate in the Vaucluse, on the far side of the Dentelles de Montmirail from the better-known Rhône villages.
The property is called La Verrière, a medieval priory and its surrounding land near Crestet, restored over many years by Xavier and Nicole Rolet. Its vineyards lie at around five hundred metres, exceptionally high for the southern Rhône, where nights are cold and the growing season runs long. That altitude, rather than any appellation rule, defines the wines; because the site falls outside the boundaries of the village appellations that surround it, the bottles carry the wider regional designations instead. Le Rosé is made from Grenache Noir with Mourvèdre and a portion of Grenache Blanc, pressed gently and fermented cool. Much of the work in the vineyard is done by hand, the plots being small and steep.
And should be served well chilled with summer food, charcuterie or grilled fish.
