Description
Chionetti Barolo DOCG Roncaglie is a single-vineyard Nebbiolo from one of the named crus of the Barolo zone in Piedmont.
Barolo is made from Nebbiolo alone, across eleven communes in the Langhe hills south of Alba, on soils laid down when the whole area lay beneath a sea; the softer marls of the western communes and the harder, sandier soils to the east give the wine two rather different characters. The zone's historic vineyard names were formally mapped and codified in 2010, giving legal weight to distinctions growers had drawn for well over a century. Nebbiolo ripens very late, often into the last days of October, and the wine must age at least thirty-eight months, eighteen of those in wood, before it can be sold. Chionetti built its name on Dolcetto at Dogliani before moving into Barolo.
Decant and serve at around eighteen degrees with braised or roast red meat; it will keep for many years.
