Description
Christophe Patrice Chablis Beauregard is a premier cru Chardonnay from the left bank of the Serein, the cooler, later-ripening side of the valley.
Chablis has forty named premier cru climats, grouped for labelling purposes under seventeen principal names. Beauregard sits among the left-bank crus south west of the town, on the same Kimmeridgian clay-limestone as the rest of the appellation but on a slope with better exposure and drainage than the flat village land, which is what the classification is really recognising. Left-bank sites face broadly south east and ripen a little later than the grand cru amphitheatre opposite. Premier cru fruit is normally picked separately and given a longer élevage than village wine, with extended time on fine lees and, in some cellars, a portion in older barrel. The wine is sealed under cork.
Broader and more textured than village Chablis and worth a few years in bottle; serve at 11 to 12 degrees with scallops, roast chicken, veal or richer fish dishes.
