Description

Cien Y Pico Knight's-Errant Garnacha Tintorera Reserva is an oak-aged red from the high country of Castilla-La Mancha, in central Spain.

The names across this range nod to Don Quixote, the knight errant whose wanderings Cervantes set on these same plains. Garnacha Tintorera is the local name for Alicante Bouschet, a nineteenth-century crossing bred by Henri Bouschet and one of very few grapes with red flesh as well as red skin. It suits the poor limestone soils and hard continental climate of south-eastern Spain, where old bush vines endure long droughts and give small crops. Reserva is a legally defined term in Spain: a red carrying it must spend at least three years ageing before release, a minimum of twelve months of that in oak. The vineyards of this part of Spain sit at six or seven hundred metres, high enough that the nights cool sharply even after the fiercest summer days.

Serve at around seventeen degrees with roast lamb, game or slow-cooked beef.
