Description
Clarence House Pinot Blanc is a barrel-fermented Tasmanian Pinot Blanc, a rare variety on the island.
Clarence House is a Tasmanian producer in the Coal River Valley district east of Hobart, a cool maritime area of low rainfall and high sunshine hours that has become one of the island's key wine regions. Pinot Blanc is uncommon in Australia; it is a white mutation of Pinot Noir best known in Alsace, northern Italy and Austria, where it makes gentle, textural wines with modest aromatics. In Tasmania's long, cool growing season it keeps a fresh line of acidity. This wine is both fermented and aged in barrel, which adds texture and a rounder mouthfeel without masking the variety's quiet fruit, and it is sealed under screwcap.
Soft and textural, it suits roast pork, chicken terrine and soft cheeses; serve at around 10 degrees.
