Clarence House Reserve Chardonnay 375ml 2024

Clarence House Reserve Chardonnay is a cool-climate Chardonnay from the Coal River Valley in southern Tasmania, in half bottle.

The Coal River Valley lies north east of Hobart around the towns of Richmond and Cambridge, one of the driest parts of Tasmania, sheltered by surrounding hills from the wet westerly weather. The cool, dry climate and long autumn let Chardonnay ripen slowly while keeping the natural acidity that defines Tasmanian wine. Clarence House takes its name from a historic sandstone homestead in the valley dating from the colonial era, with the vineyard planted on the slopes around it. Chardonnay here is hand picked, whole-bunch pressed and fermented largely in French oak barrels, with lees contact through its time in barrel to build texture around the fine acidity of the fruit. The Reserve wines are the estate's selection of its best fruit, and the wine is sealed under screwcap.

Taut and fresh with some creamy texture, it suits scallops, crab, roast chicken and soft cheeses; serve at around 10 to 11 degrees.
