Clos de l'Écotard Saumur Blanc L'Enroulée 2019

L'Enroulée is a one-off Saumur Blanc that Clos de l'Écotard made by rolling two parcels together after the black frost of 2019.

Saumur's dry whites come from Chenin Blanc on tuffeau, the soft chalky limestone that runs beneath the region, and the appellation's growers are exposed to spring frost because the vines break bud early on those free-draining soils. The frost that struck Saumur in 2019 left Clos de l'Écotard with about a third of a normal crop, and the Haie Nardin vineyard produced just nineteen hectolitres of juice. Rather than bottle so little on its own, Régis Chevré combined it with fruit from Les Quarts-Saint-Vincent, a parcel of Chenin on clay and limestone that in an ordinary year goes into the domaine's Saumur mousseux. The wine takes its name from that rolling together, and it exists only for this one season.

Ready to drink and worth holding three or four years. Serve at 10-12°C with roast pork, grilled snapper or a firm goat's cheese.
