Clos du Caillou Côtes du Rhône rouge Le Bouquet des Garrigues 2022

Clos du Caillou Le Bouquet des Garrigues is a Cotes du Rhone grown on ground that sits directly against the Chateauneuf-du-Pape boundary.

This cuvee comes from the older vines of the estate's walled park at Courthezon, land that was left outside the Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation in the 1930s only because the then owner would not let the boundary commission onto his hunting ground. The soils are sandy over clay, lighter than the galets roules of the Chateauneuf plateau, and they give perfumed, finely tannic wines rather than heavy ones. The domaine is certified organic. Grenache dominates the blend with Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault in support, fermented with a proportion of whole bunches in the warmer vintages and raised in concrete tank and large older wood so that no new oak marks the fruit.

Perfumed and quite fine boned for the southern Rhone, it suits roast lamb, herb-crusted pork and grilled aubergine; serve at around 16 to 17 degrees.
