Clos du Caillou Le Caillou is the entry level Cotes du Rhone from a certified organic estate on the eastern edge of Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

Clos du Caillou lies at Courthezon, on the boundary of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation. The estate is best known for the historical accident that shaped it: when the appellation was delimited in the 1930s the owner refused the surveyors access to his walled hunting park, so a substantial block of ground that is geologically identical to its Chateauneuf neighbours remained classified as Cotes du Rhone. That land, sandy soils over clay with pockets of gravel, is the source of the estate's Cotes du Rhone bottlings. The domaine has been farmed organically for many years and is certified. Le Caillou is Grenache led with Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault, raised in concrete and tank to keep it fresh and unoaked.

Bright and supple, it is an everyday southern Rhone for grilled meats, pizza and Provencal vegetable dishes; serve at around 16 degrees.
