Clos Figueras Poblets del Montsant Tinto 2022

Clos Figueras Poblets del Montsant Tinto comes from Montsant, the appellation that wraps almost the whole way around Priorat.

Montsant was recognised as a Denominación de Origen in 2001, having previously been a subzone of Tarragona, and it encircles Priorat on nearly every side. Its soils are more varied than its neighbour's, with sandy and limestone rich sites alongside patches of slate, and the wines are generally lighter framed and earlier drinking as a result. Grenache and Samsó, the Catalan name for Carignan, are the traditional varieties, often from old bush vines, with Syrah a common modern addition. The wine comes from the team behind Clos Figueras at Gratallops, who farm on both sides of the boundary and treat Montsant as more than an afterthought. Poblets is Catalan for hamlets, a nod to the scattered villages of the appellation.

Serve at around 16 degrees with grilled meats, charcuterie, paella or tomato based dishes; a light chill does it no harm in summer.
