Clos Figueras Serras del Priorat Blanco 2023

Clos Figueras Serras del Priorat Blanco is a white Priorat made from Garnacha Blanca, a rarity from an appellation known almost entirely for its reds.

White wine accounts for a very small share of Priorat's production, but it has a long history there and the region's llicorella slate suits Garnacha Blanca well, holding yields low and slowing ripening on the steep terraces. Clos Figueras farms at Gratallops, near the centre of the appellation, and was founded in the 1990s by the British wine merchant Christopher Cannan. The white is hand picked, gently pressed and fermented at cool temperature, with a portion generally raised in barrel and left on its fine lees for texture before the lots are assembled and bottled. Garnacha Blanca is a mutation of the red Garnacha and is grown across Catalonia and the southern Rhone, where it is known as Grenache Blanc.

Serve at around 10 degrees with grilled fish, paella, roast chicken or hard cheese.
