Clos Larrouyat Jurançon Moelleux Phoenix 500ml 2022

Clos Larrouyat Jurançon Moelleux Phoenix is a sweet white made entirely from Petit Manseng, picked in November and bottled in 500ml.

Jurançon lies in the foothills of the Pyrenees in South West France, where the drying southerly foehn wind allows growers to leave fruit on the vine into late autumn and achieve the passerillage, or raisining on the vine, that the appellation's moelleux wines depend on. Maxime and Lucie Salharang work with Petit Manseng, the thick-skinned variety best suited to this treatment because it holds its acidity as sugars concentrate. The Phoenix cuvée was picked in November, then fermented naturally and aged for eight months in used barrels. Residual sugar sits at a moderate level of around 60 g/L, which by the standards of the appellation keeps the wine on the fresher side, and the Salharang style balances that sweetness against punchy, ripe acidity.

Discreet and fine rather than heavy, and good for several years; serve at 8–10°C with foie gras, blue cheese or a lemon tart.
