Clos Larrouyat Jurançon Sec Météore 2021

Clos Larrouyat Jurançon Sec Météore is a dry Manseng blend grown on a rare band of Triassic limestone in the foothills of the Pyrenees.

Jurançon lies south-west of Pau, where Gros and Petit Manseng, thick-skinned and naturally high in acid, make both sweet wines and, under the Jurançon Sec appellation, dry ones. Météore is the core wine at Clos Larrouyat, a blend of sixty per cent Gros Manseng and forty per cent Petit Manseng from vines at Gan, in the commune of La Chapelle de Rousse. The terroir is among the most interesting in the appellation: a rare band of Triassic limestone, over which lies a blanket of poudingue, a mixture of clay with chalk, crushed pebbles and large galet stones left behind by the nearby Ossau valley. Of Maxime Salharang’s two dry whites this is the juicier and more perfumed, with ripe lemon and white peach held to a saline acid line.

Drinking well now and good for four or five years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, chicken with herbs or a plate of jamón.
