Description
Clos Larrouyat Jurançon Sec Météore is a dry Manseng blend from the Pyrenean foothills, made in a taut, high-acid style.
Jurançon lies in the foothills of the Pyrenees in south-west France, an area better known for sweet wine, though the dry Jurançon Sec made from Gros and Petit Manseng has a following of its own for its combination of ripeness and cutting acidity. Clos Larrouyat is the estate of Maxime and Lucie Salharang, whose wines have been compared to Chablis rather than to the fuller whites usually associated with the region. Météore is the domaine's core bottling, blending 60 per cent Petit Manseng with 40 per cent Gros Manseng, each vinified separately and aged six months in seasoned oak. Whole-bunch pressing and natural fermentation preserve both tension and texture, giving a dry white of brisk energy with a saline-accented palate and considerable drive.
Drink over the next five years, with oysters, grilled fish or a sharp goat's cheese. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
