Description
Clos Naudin Foreau Vouvray demi-sec is an off-dry Chenin Blanc from one of the reference estates of the appellation.
Vouvray lies on the right bank of the Loire east of Tours, where Chenin Blanc is planted on clay and flint over the soft tuffeau limestone that the local cellars are cut into. The style at Clos Naudin, run by the Foreau family for four generations, rests on picking decisions rather than cellar technique: the harvest is sorted into dry, demi-sec and moelleux bottlings according to ripeness, fermented with indigenous yeasts in old wood and bottled with little handling. This demi-sec carries 21 grams of residual sugar, a level that reads as barely off-dry against the estate's characteristically high acidity, and the wines are built to be kept for decades rather than drunk on release.
Serve at 10 to 12 degrees with pork, smoked fish or mildly spiced dishes where the touch of sugar earns its place.
