Clos Naudin Foreau Vouvray moelleux 2020

Clos Naudin Foreau Vouvray moelleux is a sweet Chenin Blanc from one of the appellation's benchmark estates, made only when the vintage delivers properly concentrated fruit.

Domaine du Clos Naudin sits on the premier cote of Vouvray, the slope immediately above the town, and has been in the Foreau family since the 1920s; Philippe Foreau built its modern reputation across four decades. The dozen or so hectares of Chenin Blanc grow on clay and flint over tuffeau limestone, and the estate decides its range only after tasting the harvest, making sec, demi-sec, moelleux and, in the best years, a Reserve. Fruit is whole-bunch pressed, fermented with indigenous yeasts and raised in old oak casks, with no chaptalisation and no new wood. This moelleux was left with around 67 grams per litre of residual sugar.

Sweet but taut, with the estate's characteristic acid backbone, it goes with foie gras, blue cheese or fruit-based desserts and will keep for decades; serve at around 10 degrees.
