Clos Naudin Foreau Vouvray moelleux Réserve 2016

Clos Naudin Foreau Vouvray moelleux Reserve is the estate's top sweet Chenin Blanc, made only in years that produce enough botrytised fruit to justify it.

The Reserve is Clos Naudin's sweet wine of the great years, drawn from the most concentrated pickings and released only occasionally. The domaine works about twelve hectares on the premier cote directly above Vouvray, on clay and flint over tuffeau limestone, and has belonged to the Foreau family since the 1920s. Grapes are whole-bunch pressed, fermented on indigenous yeasts and raised in old oak casks, with no chaptalisation and no new barrels; the ferment is allowed to stop of its own accord, in this case with around 130 grams per litre of residual sugar remaining. Ageing takes place in the tuffeau galleries cut into the hillside beneath the vines.

Deeply sweet yet held together by high natural acidity, it is a wine for foie gras, Roquefort or simply a small glass on its own, and it will age for decades; serve at around 10 degrees.
