Description
Coffinet-Duvernay Chassagne-Montrachet blanc Les Blanchots Dessous comes from a village lieu-dit lying directly below the grand cru Bâtard-Montrachet.
Chassagne-Montrachet occupies the southern end of the Côte de Beaune and shares the Montrachet grand cru band with neighbouring Puligny. Les Blanchots Dessous is a small parcel on the lower, flatter ground at the Puligny boundary, immediately beneath Bâtard-Montrachet, on deeper soils over the same limestone; it carries only village classification despite the address, which has long made it one of the more interesting white lieux-dits of the commune. Coffinet-Duvernay is based in Chassagne and works village and premier cru parcels there. The whites follow the standard practice of the village: whole-bunch pressing, fermentation and ageing in oak barrel with a modest share of new wood, and a long spell on fine lees before bottling.
Rich but firmly cut, it suits scallops, roast chicken and mature hard cheeses; serve at around 12 degrees.
