Cognac Tesseron Lot 29 XO Exception 1750ml

Cognac Tesseron Lot 29 XO Exception is the original bottling of the Tesseron collection, a blend of Grande Champagne cognacs aged across three generations of the family.

Grande Champagne is the innermost cru of the Cognac region, its deep, soft chalk producing eaux-de-vie that distil light and take decades to reach their full expression, which is precisely why houses with old stock guard it so closely. Exception draws on some of the family's finest, oldest and rarest reserves, with distillations beginning in the 1920s and a proportion of the blend dating back to 1905 and 1906. Alongside the Ugni Blanc that dominates modern Cognac, the older components include Colombard and Folle Blanche, both once widespread and now extreme rarities in the region, the latter prized before phylloxera for its floral aromatics and fragility in cask. Decades in Limousin oak and then in glass have given the blend the deep rancio character that only very long ageing produces. This 1.75-litre format is a large-format release of that same blend.

Pour it neat and let it open in the glass at room temperature; it needs nothing alongside it, though it sits well after dinner with dark chocolate or a plate of aged Comté.
