Cognac Tesseron Lot 76 XO Tradition 1750ml

Tesseron Lot 76 XO Tradition is a Grande Champagne cognac built from reserve stocks distilled predominantly in the mid-1970s.

Grande Champagne is the innermost of the six crus of Cognac, its chalky soils giving eaux-de-vie that are slow to develop and long-lived, which is why the cru dominates the region's oldest blends. Tesseron is a Cognac house known for its holdings of mature Grande Champagne stock, and the Lot numbering refers to the era of distillation rather than a single vintage. The base wine here is Ugni Blanc, picked early and low in alcohol, then double-distilled in Charentais copper pot stills before long, quiet maturation in old oak casks, where the wood contributes little fresh tannin and the spirit slowly loses strength and gains complexity. The components in this blend are 25 to 30 years old at bottling, and the result is a striking copper colour and a dense, viscous palate of roasted nuts, baked pear and orange peel. This is the 1.75-litre bottling.

Serve neat at room temperature in a tulip glass, with dark chocolate, walnuts or a hard aged cheese; an opened bottle keeps for a year or more.
