Cognac Tesseron Lot 76 XO Tradition 700ml

Cognac Tesseron Lot 76 XO Tradition is a Grande Champagne XO blended from reserve stocks of 25 to 30 years of age.

Cognac is distilled twice in copper pot stills from thin, high-acid white wine, almost always Ugni Blanc, and the Grande Champagne cru at the heart of the region gives the slowest-maturing and longest-lived spirit of the six crus thanks to its deep chalk soils. Tradition sits in the middle of the Tesseron range and draws on reserves with distillations going back to the mid-1970s, matured in Limousin oak. The colour is a striking copper. The nose is intensely fragrant, with roasted nuts, wood spice, leatherwood honey and baked pear, while the palate is deep and viscous, running to Bosc pear, almond, oloroso sherry and orange peel. The finish is long and warming, with brown sugar, vanilla and a saline edge that keeps the whole thing savoury rather than sweet.

Drink it neat at room temperature, ideally in a tulip glass rather than a balloon. It suits aged hard cheese, roasted nuts and dark chocolate after dinner.
