Description

Cognac Tesseron Masterblend 100's is drawn from four demijohns tagged 1865, holding Grande Champagne cognac set aside by the firm's founder.

Grande Champagne, the innermost cru of Cognac, produces the region's slowest-maturing and longest-lived eaux-de-vie on its deep chalk soils. Abel Tesseron put these blends aside in the second half of the nineteenth century, and they have since passed into demijohns — 25-litre heavy glass flagons used to hold old cognac once it has taken all it can from wood and reached optimum maturity. The four demijohns behind this bottling carry a lot year of 1865, which places the distillation before phylloxera reached the region and before the appellation was formalised. The grape mix would therefore have included Ugni Blanc, Colombard and Folle Blanche along with other varieties widely planted at the time; no records survive to say precisely what went into the wine before distillation, only the 1865 tag. Just 143 bottles were produced.

Serve neat at room temperature in a tulip glass and give it a long time to open. It asks for nothing alongside it.
