Commune of Buttons Cabernet Franc 2025

Commune of Buttons Cabernet Franc is a single-barrel Adelaide Hills red from the estate's first Cabernet Franc harvest.

Five rows on the Gloria Block slope, planted in 2018, gave this first tiny crop — one barrel all up. Ripening was slow and even, producing fruit of unforced character while keeping the lightness young vines tend to bring. Fermented on skins and matured on full lees in tank, with nothing else done to it, the approach favours clarity over weight or wood influence. Basket Range has built its name on reds made this way: whole-fruit handling, minimal additions, detail before extract. Cabernet Franc remains uncommon in the Adelaide Hills, which makes this one worth following as the vines age.

Red and darker berry tones with a subtle pyrazine lift and a faint animal edge, tannins fine and pliant, and a long, composed close. Serve at 15 degrees, or cooler on a warm day. Charcuterie, roast capsicum, or lamb with green herbs.
