Commune of Buttons Estate Chardonnay 2024

Commune of Buttons Estate Chardonnay is a barrel-fermented Chardonnay from 1.5 hectares in the Piccadilly Valley.

North and east-facing parcels across the ABC and Clover vineyards make up the 1.5 hectares behind this wine. The fruit was hand harvested and pressed as whole bunches before fermenting in 600-litre French demi-muids, a size that allows gentle oxygen exchange without pushing wood flavour into the wine. A long élevage followed: twelve months in barrel, then extended time on lees in tank, which is how the concentration and focus arrive without heaviness. The Piccadilly Valley is the coolest corner of the Adelaide Hills, and its Chardonnay tends towards line and tension.

Concentrated but taut, citrus and white stone fruit over a mineral core, the lees adding breadth in place of weight and the finish running long and dry. Serve at 12 degrees. Poached chicken, grilled whiting, or raw scallops with lemon.
