Commune of Buttons Eurilla Chardonnay 2024

Commune of Buttons Eurilla Chardonnay is a single-vineyard Chardonnay from a cool, south-facing site at 550 metres.

Merrow Bank runs to 0.7 hectares of south-facing vines at 550 metres, planted on white and yellow clay over sandstone. Turned away from the sun, it ripens a few weeks behind the home vineyard, and that extra hang shows in the balance between flesh and line. Fruit was barrel-fermented and aged on full lees with no stirring at all before extended time in tank — a deliberately passive élevage that builds texture without broadening the wine. In a valley where Chardonnay can go either way, this lands on the precise side of the fence.

Generosity and precision in one glass: citrus and white peach, a saline thread through the middle, and a finish that keeps pulling you back. Serve at 12 degrees. Whiting, roast chicken, or pasta with butter and peas.
