Commune of Buttons Nebbiolo Rosato 2024

Commune of Buttons Nebbiolo Rosato is a dry, skin-contact rosato from a tiny Adelaide Hills Nebbiolo planting.

Two-tenths of a hectare in the Clover vineyard produced 1,600 bottles, which is the entire run. Picking came early in April to keep brightness and lift, and the fruit was chilled overnight, destemmed and given six days on skins before pressing to stainless steel to finish fermentation. Eighteen months on fine lees followed, and the wine went to bottle with no sulphur added. Nebbiolo makes an unusual rosato: the grape's acidity and tannin give a wine with real structure, a long way from the soft, fruity end of the category.

Tight and driven by acid, showing Nebbiolo's red berry tones with a subtle tannin grip from the days on skins. Long and clean at the close. Serve at 10 degrees with grilled prawns, salumi, or tomatoes and basil.
